Summer 2012: Sault Ste. Marie

Yes finally I got our pictures from my Iphone on this laptop.

Juha's school has started and small signs of fall are to be seen. This weekend was a bit rainy, but it supposed to be 26C again at the end of the week. On Friday my cousin and her husband from Finland are coming to visit us for 2 weeks. They will stay with us only during the weekends and travel around Ontario for the rest of the days. Tomorrow we are going to watch the Dutch movie Jackie, which will be shown at the Toronto International Film Festival.

But now I can show you finally some pictures of our trips we made this summer. Let's start with our trip to Sault Ste. Marie, where Amanda, Eric and 2-year-old Jack are living, who are friends of Matt and Renelle.
It was the long weekend of Canada Day when we flew there. It's a city in Western Ontario, with across the river its twin city Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan in the States. The two cities are joined by an international bridge. Matt and Renelle drove from Timmins to the Sault and we all stayed at Amanda and Eric's house. On Saturday the guys went golfing and the girls shopping. Sunday was 1st of July and Canada day. We went to see the fire works across the river. On Monday Matt and Renelle left back home and we went to play golf in the States. A round of golf is much cheaper in the States and actually almost everything is. In the States you usually have to take a cart, but the courses are most of the times much longer as well. We really liked the Sault and are definitely going back there some time.

1 year birthday

That's what summer does to you.. being outside, enjoying the weather and no time to update our blog. We have been travelling quite a bit, mostly trips in the weekends, like to Lake Placid (NY, USA) and Timmins, Northern Ontario. We have been seeing friends, played floorball, soccer and a lot of golf.

It's this week a year since we moved to Canada and we don't regret it all. We have been loving every single day of this adventure.

Unfortunately our little laptop with our pictures on it, is not working. So, I am not able to add any pictures to this post. I hope to get the laptop fixed soon and then I will post the pictures of our trips.

Staff outing

Last Friday we had a staff outing with the Consulate. We left early in the morning with the bus to Hamilton, ON, to the African Lion Safari park. We had a bus tour through the safari park, where we saw lions, cheetas, giraffes, baboons and many other animals. In the end we even saw the bathing of the Asian elephants.

After a nice lunch at the Cambridge Mill we went to the Rockwood Conservation area. It's only about 40 km from Toronto and it feels like you are somewhere up north in the Muskokas. First we rented kanoes and let's say not everyone stayed dry ;) There were beautiful ruins and scenes to be seen. After the kanoe trip we went hiking. We saw an old mill and took some group pictures.

After all these activities we were hungry againa nd our day ended at Joey's, a nice grill restaurant where we had a delicious dinner. At the same time we said goodbye to our Deputy Consul General, who will be transferred to Brazil.
